Airport Trivia: Skyscrapers are not supposed to be built around Japanese airports.

Image
Height restrictions around airports are one of the reasons why it is difficult to build skyscrapers in Japan like those overseas. When you look at the ground from the ground of a plane on landing, you will notice that there are no tall buildings around the airport in Japan. Terminal buildings are at most five or six stories high and are not designed to be that tall. The control tower is the only tall building that stands out in Japanese airports. This is because Japan's Civil Aeronautics Law restricts the height of buildings around airports, and no building over 45 meters high can be built within a 4-kilometer radius from the center of the runway. Furthermore, various restrictions also exist on the extension of the runway where airplanes take off and land. In addition, there are even regulations that even at a distance, for example, within a 24-kilometer radius of the runway, buildings can be up to 295 meters in height. The reason for this is, of course, to eliminate obstructions

Airport Trivia : Control Tower (Airfield Control)

Image
Control Tower (Airfield Control) The building is located in such a way that the runway can be seen most clearly, and the top floor has a glass wall with a 360-degree view in all directions. When there are multiple runways, the tower must be located at a high point in order to have a clear view of the runways. The height at Narita and Kansai airports is about 84 m, and at Haneda airport it is about 77 m. At airports on remote islands with short runways, for example, the control tower is only 25 to 30 meters high. Inside the tower is a control console, which contains radio telephones, weather information, a clock, and a board for displaying operation tickets, as well as a light gun and binoculars. At larger airports, an airport surface detection radar is installed to confirm the location of aircraft and vehicles at night or in bad weather. Aerodrome control is the visual control of the airport and its surroundings. It is divided into three main areas: airfield control, which gives instr

Airport trivia:How to park an aircraft

Image
How to park an aircraft When an aircraft moves from the runway to an apron spot and stops, the form in which the aircraft stops with its nose forward under its own power is called the nose-in method. In this case, a marshaller, a guidance staff member, guides the aircraft with a flipboard, which looks like a fan, and stops it in place. When exiting the spot, the aircraft cannot retreat by itself, so a vehicle called a towing car is used to push the aircraft out onto the taxiway. This method is called the push-out (push-back) method, and is used for medium and large aircraft. Smaller aircraft park themselves by driving and turning the aircraft with the nose tilted at a 45-degree angle to the terminal building, and when exiting the spot, they also drive under their own power while turning the aircraft. This method is called self-propelled parking.

Airport trivia:Aircraft Noise

Image
Aircraft Noise Aircraft Noise Aircraft noise comes from rotating parts such as fans, compressors, and turbines; from the engine itself, including jet exhaust and combustors; and from the aircraft as it moves through the air. In Japan, the "Weighted Equivalent Average Sensory Noise Level" is used as a unit to measure the "loudness" of the noise. This was devised in consideration of the fact that aircraft noise has a greater impact on the surrounding area at night than during the day. This value is set at 70 or lower in residential areas and 75 or lower in other areas where normal life is preserved.

Airport Trivia : Cargo District Facilities

Image
Cargo District Facilities Cargo handling facilities consist of airline cargo handling sheds and agents that sort, pack, weigh, and prepare cargo for loading onto aircraft, and sort cargo unloaded from aircraft by destination and consignee. Airline cargo sorting shed: A facility that accepts cargo unloaded from an aircraft, sorts it, and delivers it to a cargo collection and delivery agent (shipping company). Agent: A carrier that handles air cargo. For international cargo, customs inspection and quarantine inspection of animals and plants are added, and customs offices, quarantine stations, and fumigation facilities (fumigating facilities to prevent pests and diseases) are established. Air cargoes are subject to high value-added and urgent requirements. There are three types of air cargo transportation methods: belly cargo by passenger aircraft, fraternal cargo by cargo aircraft, and mixed cargo by cargo/passenger aircraft. Belly cargo is an aircraft's belly (belly: the upper half
