WHILL Automated Driving Service in New Domestic Flight Area at Kansai International Airport
Introduction of a mobile service that everyone can easily use
WHILL Automated Service has been officially introduced in the new domestic flight area of Kansai International Airport Terminal 1 building operated by Kansai Airport Corporation from October 26, 2022.
The actualization of this service will follow the one at the HANED Airport, which has been in operation since 2020.
As part of barrier-free measures, an electric wheelchair that automatically transports passengers to the desired boarding gate was introduced. This is the second case in Japan following Haneda Airport.
With the renovation of the new domestic flight area at Kansai International Airport, they are making further efforts to provide universal services so that everyone, regardless of age or gender, can comfortably use airport facilities, and the introduction of the WHILL automated driving service is part of this effort. With this service, passengers can use automated personal mobility vehicles (one-person vehicles) to move through security checkpoints and to the desired boarding gate by operating their own touch panel. This allows all customers, including those who normally rent wheelchairs at information desks, etc., those who are anxious about walking long distances and their physical strength, and the elderly, to move comfortably through the spacious airport without hesitation.
By replacing the wheelchair push service with the WHILL automated service, they will not only reduce the burden on staff, but also contribute to improving customer service by providing a stable transportation service. The replacement with WHILL automated services will not only reduce the workload of staff, but also contribute to improved customer service through the provision of stable transportation services.
