Renewal of KIX Domestic Flight Areas The domestic flight areas in Kansai International Airport's Terminal 1 building will be renewed and reopened one after another from October 1, 2022.

Food court on the 2nd floor of the Domestic Departure Level at Kansai Airport renewed and reopened.

The building was renovated in preparation for the Osaka-Kansai Expo to be held in 2025.

Kansai International Airport is undergoing a major renovation to increase the airport's overall capacity to handle international passengers from the current 30 million to 40 million per year by the spring of 2025, when the Expo opens.

This is the beginning of a series of major renovations. The domestic flight area will be renovated, followed by the international flight area. The new international commercial area is scheduled to open in the winter of 2023.

When Kansai Airport first opened, the T1 facility was designed to handle 12 million passengers for international flights and 13 million for domestic flights. Although there have been minor changes to the facility since then, the actual number of passengers in FY2018 was 20.6 million for international flights and 4 million for domestic flights, resulting in a large gap between the facility and actual usage, with international flights being heavily congested and domestic flights being empty. Therefore, it was decided to renovate T1, the main facility, and greatly increase the number of international flights to meet the rapidly increasing demand for international flights.

With the renovation, the check-in counter for domestic flights has been relocated to the south side of the 2nd floor of T1, and the departure gate has been consolidated into one location near the south end of the 2nd floor. Smart lanes are introduced at the security checkpoint. Commercial facilities in the general area have been relocated near the check-in counters, and commercial facilities in the restricted area have been relocated near the center of the south wing.

The domestic departure gate on the second floor of the building will be consolidated into one on the south side, and the domestic arrival gate in the center of the second floor will be relocated to the south side of the first floor. The food court will feature five restaurants, including "Kineya Mugimaru" (udon noodle store), "Takoyaki Kappo Takomasa" (octopus dumpling restaurant), and "Maido Ookini Kanku Shokudo" (Japanese restaurant).

In the new domestic flight area, the commercial area after security check will be greatly expanded to include a total of six stores (four food and beverage stores and two merchandise stores) with a rich Kansai flavor and a domestic flight lounge. In the general area before security check, the food court "TastyStreet" and other stores will open on October 1, 2022.

Tasty Street is located behind the ANA check-in counter.
