Toyama Prefectural Art Museum A museum with a beautiful building where you can experience art and design firsthand
Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art, which opened in 2017 as the predecessor of the Museum of Modern Art, Toyama, was designed by Naito Hiro, and is located in the Tomiwa Canal Kansui Park, an art museum that connects art and design.
The glass exterior of the museum was built with luxurious use of wood and aluminum from Toyama Prefecture. It is a beautiful museum designed by one of Japan's leading architects, Hiroshi Naito. Located in the Tomiwa Canal Kansui Park, the riverside path leading from the park to the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art is a promenade to the museum. Visitors can enjoy art while taking in the beautiful scenery.
The museum offers a wide variety of modern and contemporary art from around the world, including works by Picasso, Chagall, and other masters of the early 20th century, surrealism, and abstract art, as well as works by artists representing Japan and Toyama.
The Museum of Fine Arts, Toyama ambitiously looks at the flow of art from the early 20th century to the present from the three perspectives of the world, Japan, and Toyama.
Special exhibitions are held in galleries 2, 3, and 4 on the second floor, while galleries 1 changes exhibits about once every two months, displaying a variety of works from the museum's prized collection. Visitors can always enjoy fresh encounters.
On the third floor, Exhibition Room 5 presents a design collection centering on posters and chairs. Masterpiece chairs from the history of design are lined up, and there is also a corner where visitors can actually sit on them. Along with the posters on display, visitors can enjoy a large display of their favorite works on a touch panel.
On the third floor, in Exhibition Room 6, the collections of Shuzo Takiguchi, an art critic from Toyama Prefecture, and the world-renowned musician Simon Goldberg & Miyoko Yamane are introduced. In Takiguchi's room, works presented to him by artists with whom he had close relationships, such as Miro and Duchamp, are displayed in a space reminiscent of a study. Also on display are superior 20th century pieces collected during the lifetime of Goldberg, a violin prodigy who loved Toyama and spent his later years in the city.
On the rooftop, there is a large garden called "Onomatopee's Rooftop," which is very popular with children!
The concept of "onomatopoeia" is based on onomatopoeic words such as "slippery," "slippery," and "plump," and designer Taku Satoh has created a colorful and innovative collection of playground equipment and artworks that are pleasing to the eye.
The rooftop garden "Onomatopee's Rooftop" is equipped with original playground equipment created by graphic designer Taku Satoh. The rooftop garden, "Onomatopee's Rooftop," is not only for children, but also for the whole family, and offers a spectacular view of the Tateyama Mountain Range from the rooftop.
The restaurant and café offer original menus using local ingredients, and the museum store offers original goods and art goods unique to Toyama.
At the atelier, the artist holds public productions and participatory workshops. The atelier provides opportunities for both children and adults to casually experience art in an interactive manner through "seeing," "making," and "learning".
Please spend a wonderful time enjoying with all five senses along with wonderful works of art.
