Airport Trivia: Airside and Landside
Airports are divided into airside and landside.
Boundary fences are installed at the locations that mark the boundaries of the airport land to prevent people and vehicles from entering from the outside.
The area inside the no-entry fence is sometimes called airside, and the area where the public is allowed to enter is called landside. Inside the terminal building is also distinguished by the boarding gate, and when you pass through the boarding gate, that is called the airside.
At international airports, the landside is the area inside immigration, and the airside is the area outside immigration where people board and disembark planes.
